While coming up with a quick analogy for cairngorm that suitably describes the feeling of bemusement I get while trying to understand the architecture, I came up with something my friend – an aspiring architect, of the non-software variety – once told me about Arthur Erickson’s work: completely overblown, with useless spaces.
Cairngorm just seems way too heavy for simple applications; lots of unnecessary files and packages. Hell, it seemed too heavy even for an enterprise-level application that I was working on last year. Maybe if I have no architecture at all I’ll just have three packages instead of seven.
I’m still not sure what is a good way to go about writing a Flex app from scratch, but this comparison of architectures was pointed out to me today. Cory suggested using SWIZ and it does seem simpler to follow than Cairngorm, but I have yet to try it out.
On their site it says:
”
- No repetitive folder layouts
- No boilerplate code on your development
- Does not require you to extend framework-specific classes
”
Sounds good to me already.
